It sounds like madness: jumping from an altitude of 8 kilometers out of an airplane without a parachute !? For the American skydiver Luke Aikins,
it became a reality. And he’s not crazy, he says.
The 42 -year-old stuntman known in jumping from high altitudes, he already has 18,000 parachute jumps to his name. Yet Thursday was exciting for him when he made a test jump without a parachute. He ended up obviously not on the tough ground, but in a grid of 30 by 30 meters. He felt with 150mph into the grid.
Aikins, who is now father of a son, hopes this stunt will gain eternal fame. He was supposed to be the first person to jump safely out of an airplane without a parachute or wingsuit . “I am still alive and I walk away” he said earlier this month on Fox. “I want to show that you can do it with the right preparation, things that we considered impossible”.
Besides his hours in the gym and training in wind turbines Aikins even visits a psychiatrist: “We’re talking about jumping without a parachute, and that I take it very seriously. This is not a joke” he says on this matter by news agency AP. The jump was broadcasted live by Fox and his wife and son were watching.
